Kupwara : The Kamraj Division of the Forest Department has initiated an investigation following the seizure of illegal timber in the Lasitiyaal Kalaroose area.
According to Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kamraj, Anurag Arya IFS, the department received an specific information on October 30, 2024 regarding presence of illicit timber at Lasitiyaal Kalaroose Putpora.DFO Arya informed a news agency that on October 30, 2024, Beat Guard personnel, acting on specific intelligence, located and seized six pieces of sawn Kail timber, 15.72 cubic feet, from a cowshed owned by Ishfaq Ahmad Lone, son of Ab Aziz Lone, a resident of Lasitiyaal Kalaroose. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused in line with forest protection laws.
“A comprehensive investigation has also been ordered to trace the source of the timber and submit a detailed report after a site inspection,” Arya stated.
The Forest Department reaffirmed its commitment to curbing illegal logging activities and ensuring accountability for those involved, Arya said.
