Kupwara: On the momentous occasion of Kargil Vijay Divas: Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav, the Indian Army, a steadfast beacon guiding the youth towards positive engagement and motivation in various sports activities, organized an Inter-Village Cross-Country Championship at Vilgam Army Camp. This event, emphasizing the joy of the journey over the finish line, aimed to expose the youth of Kashmir to diverse co-curricular and sporting activities.The championship, conducted for senior boys and girls from classes 8 to 12, saw enthusiastic participation from the villages of Kakrosa, Magam, Gushi, Haphruda, Jaba, and Vilgam block. Initial screening of participants was carried out at the school level, with teachers registering the participants at nearby army camps, leading up to the main event at Vilgam Army Camp.Today’s event witnessed a vibrant turnout with 360 boys, 106 girls, and 28 teachers. The boys and girls showcased their vigor in 8 km and 5 km runs, respectively. The winners were awarded medals and cash prizes to encourage their efforts. In each category, the following prizes were distributed: First Prize Rs. 4000-Second Prize: Rs. 2000-Consolation Prizes: Rs. 500 each, along with a medal and certificate to the top 10 runners in each category.The event concluded with refreshments provided to all participants and teachers. The local sarpanches and teachers expressed their appreciation and requested the continuation of such events, recognizing their role in motivating students and fostering a spirit of sportsmanship among the youth.This initiative by the Indian Army not only underscores its commitment to the nation’s youth but also enhances community spirit and encourages a healthy, active lifestyle.
