Kupwara Police Organizes Workshop on NDPS Act to Enhance Investigative Skills

Kupwara, April 10, 2025:In an effort to strengthen the investigation and prosecution process of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases, Kupwara Police today organized a comprehensive Training Session-cum-Workshop on the NDPS Act, 1985 at the District Police Office (DPO) Kupwara.The workshop was chaired by SSP Kupwara Mr. Ghulam Jeelani and attended by ASP Kupwara Mr. Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, DySP Headquarters Kupwara Mr. Mohammad Rafee Rather, DySP Lolab Mr. Javaid Lone, and DySP DAR Kupwara Mr. Gulzar Ahmad, along with all SHOs, DOs, and Investigating Officers (IOs) from across the district.The key highlight of the session was a detailed lecture and presentation delivered by Senior Prosecuting Officer (SrPO) Mr. Mohsin, who shed light on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) involved in the investigation of NDPS cases. During his lecture, Mr. Mohsin comprehensively discussed the common lacunae and procedural shortcomings observed during investigations and stressed the need for meticulous documentation and adherence to legal mandates to ensure successful prosecution and convictions in court.The session focused on: • Proper documentation and compilation of seizure memos, arrest memos, personal search memos, site plans, and other legally vital documents. • Importance of compliance with Section 42, 43, 50, and 57 of the NDPS Act. • The chain of custody, sample handling, and timely forensic examination procedures. • Role of independent witnesses, proper sealing of contraband, and timely reporting to the Magistrate.Participants actively engaged in the session and expressed that the workshop significantly enhanced their understanding of investigation protocols under the NDPS Act. They also appreciated the practical insights shared to improve the overall quality and efficiency of narcotics-related investigations.Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara Mr. Ghulam Jeelani emphasized the importance of continued professional development of investigating officers and reiterated the department’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace from the district.Kupwara Police has planned to conduct such workshops regularly across the district to build the capacity and competence of officers dealing with sensitive cases like NDPS, ensuring better law enforcement and public safety.
