Kupwara Police Intercepts Drug Trafficking Attempt; 180 Grams of Suspected Brown Sugar Seized

Kupwara, November 3, 2024– Acting on vigilance efforts to curb drug trafficking, Kupwara Police apprehended three suspects in possession of a significant quantity of suspected brown sugar, weighing approximately 180 grams, during a routine checkpoint operation at Bumhama near Drugmulla.

At around 19:45 hours, a team led by In-Charge Police Post (ICPP)Drugmulla established a random checkpoint near the Bumhama check post. During the operation, police personnel noticed three individuals approaching from Mughalpora toward Bumhama Chowk. Upon sighting the checkpoint, the suspects attempted to flee, but the swift response of the police team led to their immediate apprehension.

Upon preliminary questioning, the suspects identified themselves as:

  1. Ali Mohammad Dar, resident of Bumhama, Kupwara
  2. Mohammad Vikas Lone, resident of Hajinard, Karnah
  3. Amir Ahmad Qureshi, resident of Taad, Karnah

A thorough search was conducted, and approximately 180 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was recovered from their possession.

A case under FIR No. 254/2024 has been registered at the concerned police station under sections 8 ,21 and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985. An investigation has been launched to trace the source and network of drug distribution, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals potentially involved in drug trafficking in the area.
