Kupwara, February 21, 2025: In a major success in the ongoing war against drug menace, Kupwara Police has detained a notorious drug peddler, Asad Ali Awan, son of Akhter Ali Awan, resident of Khawarpora Karnah, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS). The accused has been lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail, Jammu, after obtaining a formal detention order from the competent authority.
The accused was a habitual offender, previously involved in multiple narcotics-related cases, including:
• FIR No. 98/2021 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of Police Station Karnah
• FIR No. 26/2022 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act of Police Station Karnah
During investigations, a huge quantity of Charas and Heroin was recovered from his possession. Despite facing multiple cases, he continued his illegal activities, supplying drugs to local youth and promoting substance abuse in the region.
By taking strict action under PIT NDPS, Kupwara Police has sent a strong message that drug traffickers will not be spared. This decisive step aims to curb the drug trade at its roots and safeguard the future of the youth.
