J&K: No Green Felling in Co 107, Kamraj Forest Division: DFO Clarifies

Kupwara : The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kamraj Forest Division, Anurag Arya (IFS), has refuted allegations of large-scale green felling in Compartment 107, Kamraj Forest Division. Addressing recent viral claims circulating on social media, Arya termed the reports as “baseless” and clarified the current status of the compartment.

According to the DFO, Compartment 107 has been recently handed over to the Forest Development Corporation (FDC) after a thorough marking of fallen and dry standing trees. This process ensures only pre-identified and approved trees are harvested, adhering to established protocols.

“These allegations of massive forest damage are unfounded. No green felling has been reported in the said compartment. Misleading information is being spread, which is contrary to the facts,” Arya stated.

However, in light of related concerns, the DFO has constituted an expert team of officials to investigate claims of green felling at Jakharnaka Forests within the division. The team has been directed to conduct a detailed assessment and submit a report to address any possible issues comprehensively.

The Forest Department reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the region’s ecological balance and emphasized the importance of responsible forest management practices.

Local residents and stakeholders are urged to refrain from sharing unverified information and to support the department in preserving Kupwara’s natural resources.
