DC B’la kick starts a mega Chinar Plantation Drive at Uri

Urges for collective action from all for protection of our environment

BARAMULLA, MARCH 15: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, in presence of Director Floriculture Kashmir, Farooq Ahmad Rather Friday kick-started a mega Chinar plantation drive at Uri, here.SDM Uri, Javaid Ahmad Rather; Commander 12 Infantry, Brigade Kuldeep Singh Dyha and District Floriculture Officer Baramulla were present at the event.The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials, local community members, and volunteers, all joining hands to contribute to the greening of their surroundings.The event kicked off with a ceremonial planting of Chinar sapling, symbolizing the commitment of the authorities and the community towards a greener and healthier environment.The Floriculture Department’s initiative represents a significant stride in the conservation of Chinar trees, the population of which has been steadily declining. Over 100 Chinar plants were planted during this event, emphasizing the importance of preserving this iconic species.Minga Sherpa commended the efforts of the Floriculture Department for organizing such initiatives with an aim to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change.The DC further emphasized the need for collective action and urged everyone to take responsibility for nurturing and protecting nature for future generations.Speaking on the occasion, the Director, Floriculture department, Kashmir said that the department will be distributing over 10,000 Chinar saplings free of charge to enhance the region’s green cover and environmental sustainability.
