Accused booked for kindling forest fire in Kupwara.

Kupwara: In North Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Kamraj Forest Division Kupwara booked one person for kindling forest fire in Ladah Forest of Kalaroose area. According to official, in a routine inspection, forest beat official Kalaroose Bashir Ahmad Lone, accompanied by Nazir Ahmad Lone, apprehended an individual in connection with a forest fire in the 114 NL Kalaroose beat, North Lolab Range, Kamraj Forest Division. The accused has been handed over to Police Post Kalaroose for lodgement of FIR .

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Kamraj, Anurag Arya, IFS, confirmed the arrest and emphasized the severe repercussions for those responsible for such actions. Arya stated that An FIR 0163 of 2024 stands registered against the accused person in Police Station Kupwara for inflicting the forest fire.

“Setting fire to forests or promoting such activities is a punishable crime,” Arya declared. “Those who violate the law will face stringent consequences.”

The DFO has appealed to the public to refrain from engaging in activities that endanger forest ecosystems. Notably, this is the first instance where a culprit has been booked under such a crime.
