Kupwara, 30-01-2025: Kupwara Police conducted Thana Divas at Police Station Sogam and Police Post Kalaroose, aiming to address public grievances, enhance police-public relations, and discuss measures to improve law enforcement. Senior police officers, local representatives, and members of civil society actively participated in the discussions.
At Police Station Sogam, the event was attended by Ghulam Jeelani Wani-JKPS,SSP Kupwara DySP PC Lolab, Raeis Ahmad-JKPS, SHO PS Sogam,Insp Imtiyaz Ahmas SHO PS Sogam and other officials. Key issues raised included power curtailments, the need for timely forest firewood auctions, and expediting police verifications. The public appreciated the anti-drug efforts of Kupwara Police and emphasized the importance of more police-public engagement programs.
In his address, SSP Kupwara reaffirmed that police and the public must work together for a safer society. He stressed that drug abuse is a severe social menace, even more harmful than terrorism if left unchecked. He assured that Kupwara Police is committed to dismantling the drug mafia and taking strict legal action, including attaching properties of offenders. He also threw light on community service as form of punishment in addressing petty crimes and disputes.
At Police Post Kalaroose, Rafee Rather-JKPS, DySP Hqrs Kupwara, and DO Kalaroose PSI Waqar Geelani lead the discussions. Concerns were raised about streamlining verification for seasonal migration to Bahaks and improving infrastructure and road connectivity. Locals also urged police to organize youth engagement activities like sports events and awareness drives.
DySP Hqrs Kupwara assured the public that their concerns would be forwarded for necessary action and emphasized that community cooperation is essential for maintaining peace and security.
