Drug Peddler Apprehended with Contraband Substance in Kalaroos

KUPWARA, 19th April : Continuing its efforts to curb the menace of drug trafficking in the district Kupwara Police achieved a significant success today by arresting a drug peddler and recovering a substantial quantity of contraband from his possession.

At around 1700 hrs a routine naka/checkpoint was established by police personnel at Thayan Gugran road under the jurisdiction of Police post Kalaroos. During the operation a suspicious individual was observed approaching the naka point and upon noticing the police presence attempted to flee the spot.

The alert naka party acted swiftly and tactfully apprehended the individual after a brief chase. He was later identified as Sadeeq Ahmed Bania son of Sher Zaman Baniya resident of Narikoot Kalaroos.

Upon personal search a substantial quantity of a charas-like substance was recovered from his possession, which was seized on the spot as per procedure.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 118/25 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kupwara and the accused has been formally arrested. Further investigation has been set into motion to unearth the forward and backward linkages of the drug network in the area.

Kupwara Police remains committed to its mission of making the district drug-free and appeals to the general public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling or other illegal activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
