DM Kupwara chairs NCORD Committee Meeting, Reviews Anti-Drug Measures in the district

KUPWARA, AUGUST 24: District Magistrate Kupwara, Shrikant Suse, today chaired a meeting of the District-Level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) Committee to review the anti-drug measures being implemented across the district. The meeting comprehensively assessed inter-departmental coordination in the areas of prevention, enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation measures.

At the outset, a detailed discussion was held regarding enforcement achievements, including FIRs registered under the NDPS Act by the district police (Kupwara & Handwara), attachment of properties belonging to drug peddlers, preventive detention of offenders, removal of encroachments, and destruction of illicit cannabis and poppy cultivation across the district.

The DM also reviewed action initiated under the SOP of the Home Department, including cancellation of driving licences, contractor cards, gun licences, and passport-related actions against individuals involved in narcotics-related offences.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned departments to promptly conclude pending Regular Departmental Action (RDA) and other applicable legal proceedings against government employees found involved in drug-related offences, emphasizing that strict action is essential to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of public institutions.

Reviewing the district’s de-addiction and rehabilitation initiatives, the Medical Superintendent, Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara, and the District Health Officer (DHO) Kupwara briefed the meeting on the number of patients registered at de-addiction centres, those currently undergoing treatment, and individuals who have successfully recovered through rehabilitation programmes. Appreciating the efforts of the Health Department, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need to further strengthen counselling, treatment, and post-rehabilitation follow-up services. During the same meeting, review of panchayat wise playfield development was also undertaken.Rural Development Department was directed to expedite completion of playfield on priority.

SSP Kupwara, Syed Al Tahir Gilani; SSP Handwara, Sahil Sarangal; ACR, Principals of GDCs, DEPO, Officers from Prosecution deptt, RDD, Agriculture, Drug control, social welfare as well as Tehsildars and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
